Security and preventionThe Security Policy Department is responsible for the legal regulation in the sector of arms and ammunition. The principal reference here is the Law No. 119/2002 Coll., on arms, as amended, which came into effect on 1 January 2003 and is fully in line with legal regulation of the European Union. In the context of state administration in the area of arms and ammunition the Security Policy Department continuously reviews the legal framework and proposes changes when required. This year the Department prepares an amendment to the Law on Arms that will bring improvements mainly to the area of supervision and checking of compliance with this law and will dispose of some shortcomings identified in the course of its practical application. In accordance with the Law on Arms, the Security Policy Department carries out other tasks too. In concrete terms it is, in particular, the nomination of examining board members for the professional examinations of applicants for firearm licence of groups “A - E“; professional examinations of group “F“ applicants (pyrotechnic prospecting) are then carried out by the Department itself. Apart from the above-mentioned the Security Policy Department has some other tasks in this branch as well.
The Security Policy Department the Ministry of Interior keeps in touch with both professional circles and the general public and replies to their questions.
