In 2004, compared to 2003, number of fires declined by 28 %, and fire damages dropped by 9 %. Total of 239 major fire cases (with fire damages of CZK 1 million or more), i.e. 1.1 % of the total number, caused 66 % of the total sum of fire damages. In 2004, the number of fatalities was lower by 11 % and number of injured lower by 7 %, compared to 2003.

Firefighters rescued 477 persons in fire operations, and other 3,089 persons evacuated.

This review indicates, that in 2004 some 58 fires occurred daily in the Czech Republic, with an average damage of CZK 4,570,000 (EUR 142,000).

Values salvaged by fire units were 4.1 times higher then the direct loss.
