Major exercises of IRS bodies/components and international exercises in the Czech Republic in 2004

September 15th to 16th – Two-day international exercise named BESKYDY 2004 took place in Frýdek-Místek, North Moravia, with participation of fire units from Poland and Slovakia. The exercise was prepared in frame of the EU Improved Cooperation Programme for Prevention and After-effects Reducing of CBRN Threats.

October 6th – Major tactical exercise was focused on arrival time of fire units involved in fire cover plan, and on tactical possibilities of pre-planned forces and equipment. Seven fire units, Medical Rescue Service and regional bodies of state administration participated in this exercise in the area of the ČEPRO (Czech Pipelines) company in Cerekvice, East Bohemia. As a part of the exercise, fire units extinguished fire of a tank with flammable liquids, testing to use the Ambassador monitor and placing scum boards to protect foam leakage.

October 7th – Testing exercise was focused on fire control of an oil tank in fire, a storage pile of six oil tanks, respectively. Nine fire units and Medical Rescue Service participated in the exercise in the area of the ČEPRO (Czech Pipelines) company in their Velká Bíteš store, Czech-Moravian Highlands. Aim of the exercise: to deepen knowledge on storage objects with flammable liquids, to familiarize firefighters with operational problems at the premises, and to proof abilities of fire units to operate in such fire cases.

October 13th – ROPA 2004 International Tactical Exercise took place in the Areál vodních sportů (Water Sports premises) in Hodonín, South Moravia. The exercise proved, how to involve foreign forces and equipment into an accident at the DRUŽBA pipelines with oil spill into the Morava River and surrounding terrain. As the Morava River is a natural border between the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, both Czech and Slovak firefighters operated (total of 17 fire units), and other bodies of IRS: Czech Police, a military unit from the Bučovice Rescue and Exercise Base of Czech Army, operational units from the MERO company, the ČEPRO company, the DEKONTA company and others.

November 16th – Exercise in the area of the Eastman Company in Sokolov, North Bohemia, was focused on testing connection between the Eastman Sokolov Company and municipal bodies responsible for warning of endangered citizens incl. their evacuation in case of a major accident. Scenario: leakage of acryl acid was followed by an explosion and fire of propylene that caused drift of dangerous gases moving to the town of Sokolov. Thirteen fire units cooperated with certain IZS bodies.
