In 2005, compared to 2004, number of natural disasters increased due to weather conditions, and, on the other hand, number of technical accidents decreased for the first time in years. All other types of incidents dropped, or stayed on the same level.

In 2005 two cases of radiation incidents happened:

  • June, 13th - Four components designed as radioactive material was found in a former civil protection store in the district of Usti upon Orlice. No increased radiation was measured out, and things were transported to a lab of State Office for Nuclear Safety, where it was found that there were so called surge diverter.
  • July, 7th - An accident happened in the Spolana Neratovice chemical company in the district of Melnik, when radioactive emitter support unfastened from a device for checking of welding steams. The accident was disposed by a specialised company.

False alarms cover:

  • 48 % fire alarms messages (+2 % compared to 2004)
  • 20 % symptoms of combustion (-1 %)
  • 9 % misused fire units (no changes)
  • 9 % burning without notification (-1 %)
  • 14 % other causes (no changes)

In 2005 fire units directly rescued 5,248 persons in operations, and other 7,076 persons evacuated.

Three firefighters died during interventions

  • April, 4th – Jaroslav Klimes, born 1952, from the Zabreh fire station, Olomouc Fire Rescue Service – on the way to fireFire Rescue Service – on the way to fire
  • May, 22nd – Jaroslav Rehak, born 1982, from Jablonne upon Orlice VFU, in fire operation
  • June, 30th – Miroslav Lipnicky, born 1959, from the Vansdorf fire station, Usti upon Elbe Fire Rescue Service – after firefighting in hospital
